Good Morning, Friends! One of my friends asked me, "Why
Heart to Heart?"
My response, "Because I want to share those special
people, places and memories that I hold dear to my heart and soul.
There are so many special - caring - kind friends out there and I've
felt that I have been blessed to connect with the majority of them.
AND -- I know I haven't met all of them yet! BUT -- I'm working on
it!
As another of my friends says, "Everything is New!"
I would like to dedicate this week's Newsletter in honor
of all the caring -- loving individuals of the Freedom Community in
NW Oklahoma. This one is for you! Thanks for letting me adopt you
and soar with the Freedom Eagles of NW Oklahoma. It's a grand privilege
- AND -- I'll make you proud!
Even though I am NOT a resident of Freedom, I do have
ties to that area because my Great-Grandfather, John R. Warwick, owned
farm ground just east of there in a small, rural area known as "Fair
Valley". Fair Valley no longer exists today... BUT you can still
find descendants of Fair Valley holding their annual reunions in September
in the Chamber building in Freedom.
Can I ask a favor of you readers for a few former residents
whose ancestors settled there long ago. If you can help them in any
way, I've included their Email addresses with their names and whom
they are searching:
1. Therese Colvin (colvinp@ibm.net) - Looking for info
on Bingamon, Wright families from Freedom. Allan Bingamon married
Sarah Caroline Wright. They moved to Freedom about 1894. Sarah died
there in 1924. Can anyone help her?
2. Stan Whittet (swhittet@gte.net) - Looking for info
on his grandmother's family. Her name was Jennie Reba Reilly. She
was born 28 September 1885 in Kansas. Her father, John Calvin Reily,
was married to Kate Clemens. He has no dates on them. Jennie died
in Freedom on 2 June 1952 and is buried in the Feedom Cemetery. She
married John Daniel Whittet on 3 July 1913. She was the postmaster
in Freedom for many years. They lived in Woods County for many years.
Stan's father was Stan Whittert, Sr. and married Betty Jane Coles
Whittet. He adds, I think that what your doing with this newsletter
is great. I shall look forward to each edition. My mother sends me
the "The Freedom Call" every once in awhile. It is fun reading.
Well, that started the "Bells & Whistles"
going off in my head. It got me to thining, why don't some of you
who like to write, send me a small snippet of the history and/or description
of your area. We cna share it here through Oakie's Heart To Heart.
Why do I do this? Because.. Because I get to share with
my friends a part of myself that I love and hold dear to me. I love
learning about my ancestral history -- about my state -- about my
friends -- about my ancestors, and about my strengths. Go out and
make a great day and see what comes back in return!
